Analisis Kemampuan Literasi Informasi Mahasiswa Program Studi Perpustakaan dan Sains Informasi UIM Yogyakarta dalam Penelusuran Informasi di Perpustakaan Menggunakan Model The Big Six
Abstract
Introduction. Information literacy is an important skill for university students in identifying, accessing, evaluating, and utilizing information effectively. This study aims to analyze the information literacy skills of students of the Library and Information Science Study Program at UIM Yogyakarta in information searching at the UIM Yogyakarta Library using the Big Six model.
Data Collection Methods. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants consisted of seven students from the Library and Information Science Study Program at UIM Yogyakarta, selected using purposive sampling.
Data Analysis. Data were analyzed using three stages of qualitative data analysis: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The analysis focused on six stages of the Big Six model: Task Definition, Information Seeking Strategies, Location and Access, Use of Information, Synthesis, and Evaluation.
Results and Discussion. The results show that students have good information literacy skills in information searching through the application of the six stages of the Big Six model. Students are able to formulate information needs, determine relevant keywords, and apply Boolean techniques. They also utilize various physical and digital information sources, including OPAC, e-resources, digital library platforms, and the Dewey Decimal Classification system. In addition, students are able to read and extract relevant information using skimming and scanning techniques, synthesize information from various sources into scientific writing, and evaluate the accuracy, credibility, and relevance of information and its sources.
Conclusion. Students of the Library and Information Science Study Program at UIM Yogyakarta have adequate and effective information literacy skills, particularly in information searching at the library. The Big Six model provides a comprehensive framework for analyzing students' information literacy skills in the process of fulfilling their information needs.
