Kegiatan Preservasi Preventif Naskah Kuno Sebagai Upaya Pelestarian Informasi di Perpustakaan Nasional

Abstract

Introduction. The deterioration of ancient manuscripts results in the loss of historical information and the damage of cultural heritage in Indonesia. The National Library plays an important role in preserving modern or rare library materials to provide information and education to the public. One of the initiatives undertaken by the National Library is the Preventive Preservation of Ancient Manuscripts.

Data  Collection Methods. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, involving three informants directly participating in Preventive Preservation activities. Data collection included observations and documentation, followed by analysis to assess the program's effectiveness. Data Analysis. The analysis of this study uses a qualitative descriptive case study approach by outlining the results of the research.

Results and Discussion. The study found that the National Library actively and routinely carries out preventive preservation activities to protect ancient manuscripts from damage caused by mold or pests, and to maintain these manuscripts to prevent their extinction. These activities emphasize the importance of preventing further deterioration of ancient manuscripts each year, in order to preserve the authenticity of the information they contain. The National Library also assists members of the public who own ancient manuscripts by providing guidance on how to properly care for them.

Conclusion. Preventive Preservation activities at the National Library have effectively safeguarded and improved the condition of ancient manuscripts from damage. Through these preventive efforts, the National Library has successfully preserved and reduced the deterioration of ancient manuscripts.
